The former Coventry captain made a well-documented Deadline Day switch across the Championship

Wrexham's rise up the footballing pyramid has been extremely well-publicised, with the Welsh side moving from the National League up to the Championship at record-breaking speed.

The Red Dragons' story has been bankrolled by the Hollywood acting duo of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who took control of the club back in the winter of 2021 for a sum of just £2m during the club's lengthy spell in the depths of non-league football following relegation back in May 2008.

Whilst many believed that the American duo would certainly help transform the fortunes of the club, not many could have foreseen such a swift transformation, as the club became the first side in the history of the EFL to achieve three promotions on the bounce, subsequently returning to the second-tier for the first time in 43 years with promotion from League One last term.

After previously breaking the club's transfer record in January with the acquisition of Sam Smith, the hierarchy made it no secret that they hope to immediately become a competitive Championship force before eventually reaching the Premier League for the first time ever.

Unsurprisingly, transfer activity at the Stok Cae Ras was analysed at length throughout the summer, with Phil Parkinson overseeing an eventual spend of approximately £30m on incomings, with the last of those coming in the form of Ben Sheaf, who moved from Coventry City on Deadline Day.

Despite not being the most-expensive deal of the summer window for the North Wales outfit, it was still yet another shrewd piece of business, with the 27-year-old establishing himself as a high-quality midfield general at the level during his time at the CBS Arena.

And, although Frank Lampard's side harbour ambitions of ending their lengthy spell from the top-flight, Sheaf's overall wage packet has gone up, and FLW has compared his salaries in the West Midlands and Wales.

Sheaf had spent the previous five years with Coventry, initially signing on loan under Mark Robins prior to the club's final season in League One, in which they were eventually crowned champions amid an early finish to the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After signing a permanent deal, reported to have been in the region of just £750,000, Sheaf's first ESTIMATED wage as a Sky Blues player - according to Capology - was just £5,000.

However, this would be upgraded to £7,500 after his first two seasons of being permanently contracted to the club, which ended up being a largely successful one for player and club, although it would end in Wembley heartbreak at the hands of Luton Town in the play-off final.

The following season saw Sheaf's performances only increase tenfold despite a slight overall regression from the Sky Blues, although he would be at the forefront of more North London woe, as his missed penalty saw City miss out on a first FA Cup final since 1987, losing to Manchester United despite initially recovering from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 in normal time.

The Dartford-born man was then made club captain last season, although a handful of injury knocks would see him make just 33 appearances in all competitions.

After making 177 appearances, scoring nine times and posting a further 11 assists, Sheaf moved to Wrexham for £6.5m on September 1st, where he has since boosted his earnings.

Sheaf became one of several signings that provided Parkinson with established second-tier knowhow and quality in and out of possession, joining the likes of Lewis O'Brien in the middle of the park following his individual move from Nottingham Forest.

Given the stature of the club and its current financial state, largely down to worldwide interest, Sheaf has seen his wages increase to a figure of £15,000 per week at base level, plus a bonus of £3,750, according to Capology.

This equates to a sum of £780,000 across the entire 46-game season as a whole.

Sheaf's aforementioned salary is said to be half of what the top earner, Kieffer Moore, takes home on a weekly basis- £30,000 - whilst only Conor Coady, Jay Rodriguez and the aforementioned O'Brien also collect greater pay packets.
