FLW's Huddersfield Town fan pundit has given his reaction to striker Joe Taylor's strong form during his loan spell at Wigan Athletic.

Striker Joe Taylor has been in outstanding form since his loan move from Huddersfield Town to Wigan Athletic.

Huddersfield signed Taylor from Luton Town last January for a reported fee of over £3 million, and having scored 10 goals in 19 games while on loan at Lincoln City in League One the previous season, he looked to be a strong signing for the club.

However, Taylor struggled to make an impact at the Accu Stadium in the second half of last season, netting just two goals in 15 appearances as the Terriers missed out on the play-offs, and he did not fare much better in the early part of this campaign.

Taylor scored seven goals in 27 appearances in all competitions for Town this season, and after his game time became incredibly limited over the winter period, he was loaned out to fellow third tier side Wigan last month, just days before the sacking of manager Lee Grant.

The 22-year-old has certainly made an impact at the Brick Community Stadium, scoring six goals in his first nine appearances for the Latics, including a brace in his side's 3-2 defeat at Stockport County on Saturday.

When asked for his reaction to Taylor's impressive form for Wigan, FLW's Huddersfield Town fan pundit Graeme Rayner admitted that it is increasingly looking like the Terriers made a mistake in loaning out the striker, and he insisted that he should be given another chance next season when he returns from his spell with the Latics.

"I think, at the time, the decision looked like a wise one to let Joe Taylor go out on loan," Graeme told FLW.

"He wasn't getting game time, perhaps his head wasn't in the right place, and he certainly wasn't in Lee Grant's plans, so it seemed like a wise decision.

"What I think most Town fans could or should understand is that he wasn't being utilised in the right way and we weren't playing to his strengths, so he wasn't getting the results that his ability suggested he could.

"He's now got six in nine at Wigan since he's gone there, so it's beginning to look like a poor decision, but we are where we are.

"Ideally, we would have potentially kept him, and maybe he would have been in Liam Manning's plans.

"He's definitely a player with ability and an instinctive eye for goal, but we just weren't playing in a way that allowed him to show those instincts.

"Too often, he was spending 99 per cent of the game chasing around lost causes and not being given service.

"I think it's a sensible move in terms of him getting game time and showing what he can do, but I really hope that, in a similar way to what happened with Bojan Radulovic, he returns from a loan spell, comes back and shows Town fans what he can do next year.

"Whichever division we are in, I hope that he can be utilised in the right way.

"It's good for us that he can't play against us next week because of the loan deal, but I'm really happy for him.

"I've always quite liked him, so good luck to him, and I hope it works out for him.

"He's certainly showing what he can do now, which is long overdue."

Ryan Hardie signing should ease any Huddersfield Town, Joe Taylor frustration

Taylor scored just nine goals in his first year at Huddersfield, but he has almost matched that tally in just over a month at Wigan, so Terriers fans will be baffled by the striker's sudden upturn in form.

As Taylor has previously demonstrated his goalscoring ability at League One level, his resurgence should perhaps not come as too much of a surprise, but it will no doubt be hugely frustrating for Town, particularly given that a managerial change was made just days after his exit.

However, Huddersfield pulled off a coup as they signed Ryan Hardie on loan from Wrexham in January, and after opening his account for the club in the 2-1 victory over Barnsley on Saturday, he is more than capable of firing Manning's men to promotion in Taylor's absence.

Fitness issues will of course linger with Scottish striker Hardie, given he's just had a layoff with a knee injury, but if he can bang in the goals on a consistent basis, then the exploits of Taylor away from the Accu Stadium will hurt a lot less.
