Hugo Duro’s stoppage-time penalty sent Mestalla into raptures as Valencia edged Alavés. These are the standout player ratings from a frenetic night.
As reported by AS, Giorgi Dimitrievski could do little about the two Alavés goals, though he produced some solid saves. Guido conceded a penalty in the first minute and was involved again for the visitors’ second.
Javi Guerra scored for Valencia and then grew into the game, albeit without always connecting with team-mates. Ugrinic was tidy and inventive, key to the first Valencia goal. Alavés struck again, Cömert levelled and, despite his struggles against their forwards, he also helped progress play from the back.
Thierry endured a flat display and found it hard going against Ángel Pérez, offering little in attack. Unai Nuñez looked uncertain facing Toni Martínez and Lucas Boyé. Gayà was secure defensively, less so going forward, and finished by driving the side on.
Ramazani was busy but erratic. Luis Rioja was subdued before half-time, brighter after it without real threat, then made way for Danjuma, who added depth on the left and delivered dangerous crosses. Sadiq kept battling, fashioned his own openings, but his choices and finishing let him down.
Duro partnered Sadiq and worked hard despite wayward finishing. André Almeida had little influence with limited touches. Raba sparked his side’s second goal and Diego López was incisive down his flank.
