Humphrey Ker, who set Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds on the road to buying Wrexham, has stepped down from the club’s board and relinquished his Wrexham Foundation trusteeship, according to NY Times.

The actor and writer became executive director immediately after the 2021 takeover. He served for four years, then stepped back before the 2024-25 season to refocus on comedy.

Ker called working for the club and town the greatest honour of his life and said he was proud of his part. He felt the club’s evolution had made it harder for him to contribute positively, so he would now watch from a distance while remaining a fan.

He introduced Mac to British football on the Mythic Quest set and, during lockdown, suggested watching Sunderland ‘Til I Die, which drew in Reynolds. Asked to find the right club, he assessed options across Ireland, England and Scotland before choosing Wrexham ahead of Hartlepool United.

The choice led to three straight promotions from non-League to the Championship, a first for such speed, and a global following. When Apollo Sports Capital became a minority shareholder last year, Wrexham was valued at £350 million. In July, Shaun Harvey moved from the main board to a non-executive role on an initial three-year term.

In a joint message, Mac and Reynolds called Ker a key part of the Wrexham story and said his kindness, humour and height would not be forgotten.
