Liam Rosenior is taking his press conference ahead of the game against Newcastle tomorrow, and the Chelsea boss had to address the major talking point head on – his goalkeepers.

Rosenior dropped Robert Sanchez for Filip Jorgensen a week ago, and the Dane made a horrible error against PSG. Now the manager is under pressure to switch them back. If he does, he looks weak. If he doesn’t, he looks stubborn.

Rosenior stuck in mess of his own making over goalkeepers

This is really a mess of his own making, however.

“Obviously I made a decision to play Filip against Villa and his performance was outstanding,” Rosenior insisted.

“His performance against PSG for 75 minutes was outstanding but then he made a mistake. Rob Sanchez is one of the best goalkeepers in the league but I have to make a decision for every game.”

Rosenior’s ongoing insistence that he “doesn’t have a number one” is about to be tested. If he is really picking game by game based on form, then Sanchez should be back in. But is the manager willing to make a move like that, which immediately makes the decision to put Jorgensen in at all look foolish? We’re not so sure.

In other news…

Wesley Fofana spoke after the PSG game about how his Chelsea teammates were struggling physically, which made Rosenior’s sub decision all the more curious.
