“I haven’t even seen that in training” Gyokeres reacts to Zubimendi’s performance

Arsenal enjoyed a highly satisfying afternoon at the Emirates as they defeated Nottingham Forest with authority, thanks to a brace from Martin Zubimendi and a well-taken strike from Viktor Gyökeres. The performance highlighted the strength of the Gunners’ new arrivals, who combined effectively to guide the side to victory despite the absence of some of their established stars.

In past seasons, losing Bukayo Saka from the starting line-up and seeing Martin Ødegaard withdrawn early through injury would have caused significant disruption, often leaving Arsenal struggling to salvage even a point. This time, however, the Gunners demonstrated their evolution, overcoming adversity and producing a display of resilience and quality to claim all three points.

Arsenal Overcome Early Setbacks

Forest, hoping to benefit from the bounce of a new managerial appointment, arrived at the Emirates with optimism. Yet it quickly became clear that Arsenal were determined to impose themselves. The breakthrough came when Zubimendi latched on to a clearance and struck a superb volley into the net, sending the home supporters into raptures.

Arsenal maintained their dominance throughout the first half, dictating the tempo and keeping Forest pinned back. Even with key figures missing, the Gunners’ fluid attacking movement proved difficult to contain. Although they could not extend their lead before the interval, the signs of control and confidence were unmistakable.

Gyökeres and Zubimendi Seal the Result

After the restart, Arsenal wasted little time in putting the result beyond doubt. Viktor Gyökeres added the second goal, demonstrating his composure in front of goal and vindicating the club’s faith in his abilities. His strike was followed by a second from Zubimendi, completing a brace that surprised even his teammates given his deeper role in midfield.

Reflecting on the victory, Gyökeres praised the contributions of his colleagues and admitted his astonishment at Zubimendi’s goalscoring display. Speaking to Premier League Productions, he said: “We wanted to make a better performance than we did in the last game and we did that. It’s a great feeling to score, it’s amazing. [Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke] are amazing, they always do something special and we saw that again – it’s a big surprise to see [Martin Zubimendi] scoring twice, I haven’t even seen that in training, but it’s great to see!”

For Arsenal, the match was a reminder of their growing depth and adaptability. On a day when established stars were unavailable, the new signings stepped forward to deliver a result that will only strengthen belief in their ambitions this season.
