Adrien Rabiot (29) has taken aim at the UNFP awards committee after failing to be shortlisted among Ligue 1’s best midfielders, despite what he considers to be one of the best individual seasons of his career at Olympique de Marseille. The France international was overlooked in the UNFP’s end-of-season awards nominations, sparking disbelief from Marseille supporters – and from the player himself.
“I spoke to someone from the UNFP who told me, ‘It’s ridiculous that you’re not in it,’” Rabiot told Carré. “I said, ‘Exactly – it’s totally lacking credibility.’ I told him: ‘I’m top three among midfielders this season – and I’m not third.’”
The midfielder’s stats back up his claim. In 31 appearances this season for OM, Rabiot registered 10 goals and 6 assists, a remarkable return for a central midfielder and a key part of Marseille’s surge into a Champions League place. An agreement was reached with Rabiot when he first arrived at Olympique de Marseille that would allow him to leave the club for free this summer. Marseille will reportedly attempt to convince him to ignore the advances of Europe’s elite clubs, who are still interested in his services and can offer him a far higher wage. GFFN | George Boxall
