Imminent Barcelona new signing reacts to future at Camp Nou – “We will see” | OneFootball

Dominik Livakovic is set to become the next signing for Barcelona, having already arrived at the city to sign a long-term contract.

Livakovic is being roped in as a long-term replacement for Wojciech Szczesny, who is not expected to continue beyond this season.

The Croatian was initially expected to join the Barcelona camp in 2027 and rejoin Fenerbahce on a loan deal. But things have changed, with recent reports claiming that he might actually remain at Barcelona this summer.

Livakovic weighs in on his future

Which touching down at the airport, Livakovic was asked about his immediate future at Barcelona by journalist Carlos Monfort.

The Croatian shot-stopper gave a coy response but did not downright ruled out staying at Barcelona this season.

“We will see,” said the goalkeeper, who is expected to sign a four-year deal at Barcelona after completing his medical test tomorrow.

Barcelona have a few options they could explore as far as Livakovic is concerned.

The most likely scenario could see him replacing Szczesny as the second-choice goalkeeper and thus serve as the immediate backup for Joan Garcia.

This means Livakovic might feature in the Copa Del Rey matches for Barcelona, though it won’t be surprising to see Hansi Flick switching between him and Szczesny as well.

The other option is to return to Fenerbahce, where he will have to compete with Ederson for a place in the first-team.

Given the fact that the Croatian had an outstanding campaign on loan at Dinamo Zagreb last season, he could make a strong case for the first-team at Fenerbahce.

However, deputising for Garcia does appear to be the better option for Livakovic right now considering the fact that the Barcelona number one has had issues with his fitness in the past.

Not to mention, Barcelona simply lack the services of a proper alternative other than Szczesny, who is just soldiering on for the love of the game.
