In Cotia, under-20s kick off the Copa do Brasil with a rout

São Paulo’s U-20 team got off to a flying start in its quest for a third Copa do Brasil title in the category and a sixth overall crown in the competition. Tricolor thrashed Santo Antônio-MS 13-1 at CFA Laudo Natel in Cotia. The goals were scored by João Costa (4), Igão (3), Gustavo Miranda (2), Bezerra, Léo, Matheus Menezes, and Angelo.

The U-20 side confirmed its favoritism right from the opening minutes. In the 10th minute, Marvin delivered a perfect corner for João Costa to open the scoring. Three minutes later, Angelo set up João Costa for another. A minute after that, Lucyan was the one to cross, and Gustavo Miranda got his goal.

Midway through the first half, in the 25th minute, João Costa scored again, netting his third of the match. Four minutes later, Lucyan broke into the box again and this time picked out Igão, who made it five. Then, in the 31st minute, Marvin took another corner and Igão popped up again to score. Five minutes later, João Costa held up the ball and set up Bezerra, who finished to make it seven. Before halftime, João Costa found the net again in the 40th minute, scoring his fourth of the match and São Paulo’s eighth. In the closing minutes of the first half, the visitors pulled one back from the penalty spot.

One minute into the second half, Igão completed his hat-trick. In the 13th minute, Gustavo Miranda scored the tenth. In the 33rd minute, Lucyan passed to Léo, who also got on the scoresheet. Ten minutes later, Matheus Menezes added his name to the scoresheet as well, and in the 45th minute Angelo scored.
