Independiente del Valle will be without Juan Riquelme Angulo for the Libertadores quarter-final against Flamengo, following his move to Sunderland. The Ecuadorian forward will not feature on Thursday 10 at Estádio Olímpico Atahualpa.
The club confirmed the transfer in a statement on Tuesday 01. It said they had hoped to keep him for the remaining challenges and his development, but respected his decision within his contract.
Standing 1.93m, Angulo made his senior debut for Independiente del Valle in March 2026, scoring in a 3-1 win over Mushuc Runa. He received his first Ecuador senior call-up later that month.
Flamengo have added Joaquín Freitas from River Plate, and the 19-year-old forward can still be registered for this phase of the Libertadores. They have also signed Ecuadorian winger Anthony Valencia, a Del Valle academy graduate who had been playing in Belgium.
Before meeting Del Valle, Flamengo play a rescheduled Brasileirão match against Mirassol on Wednesday 02 at 19:30 Brasília time, at the Maracanã.
