Independiente del Valle have moved on from celebrating their place in the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals and are now focused on Flamengo. Striker Carlos González has played down the pressure and expressed confidence ahead of September’s tie.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the Paraguayan accepted that Flamengo are a high-level challenge, yet maintained the Ecuadorian side can compete on equal terms.
González said it will be a very difficult contest and that his team must treat it accordingly. He expects a demanding game for both sides.
While acknowledging the threat, he did not dwell on Flamengo’s strength. González stressed Independiente del Valle know their own qualities, intend to use them, and are not planning simply to sit back.
The first leg is scheduled for 10 September at the Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa in Ecuador. The return is on 17 September at the Maracanã, with the winners progressing to the semi-finals.
