Blues are looking to make sure they do not slip up this season and at least manage to finish in the playoff spots in the Championship.

In the attacking department, Birmingham signed Luiz Vazquez from Anderlecht and they paid a hefty fee in the region of €3.5m to get the deal done.

Ducksch, who joined Birmingham from Werder Bremen last summer, is now facing heavy competition to get minutes under his belt, but it was suggested early in the window that he wants to leave.

His desire to go following Birmingham’s failure to get promoted last season looks to have continued and the path is now clearly pointing towards the St Andrew’s exit door.

In June, the German centre forward admitted that he was holding talks with several clubs regarding a departure, but a move has yet to materialise.

That could well change as, according to German journalist Dennis Bayer, he ‘was informed today’ that Birmingham are prepared to grant him a free transfer exit.

Birmingham could well terminate his contract, which would allow him to move even after the transfer window closes.

The 32-year-old wants to return to Germany this summer and it has been suggested that several clubs from the Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga are keen.

2. Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin have been amongst his admirers and it was suggested in June that they are keeping an eye on his situation.

With Birmingham letting him go without a fee, Ducksch could well have even more options to choose from in the coming days.

Last season, Ducksch featured 33 times in the Championship for them and netted ten goals while laying on two assists in the process.

Where the striker might end up remains to be seen, but the outcome is a disappointing one for Blues given the fanfare surrounding his arrival.
