Renato Gaúcho began work at Vasco, racing the clock to lift their league form before Palmeiras visit São Januário next Thursday in the fifth round. The 63-year-old has little time to settle.
According to PaponaColina, his first day at CT Moacyr Barbosa included meetings with president Pedrinho, director of football Admar Lopes and technical director Felipe Loureiro. They discussed the squad and set a sporting plan, agreeing that recovery in the Campeonato Brasileiro is the club’s priority.
The opening agenda centred on assessing the contracted squad. The football department mapped the group, and Renato presented initial tactical ideas. He already knows players such as Cuiabano, Léo Jardim, Hugo Moura and Matheus França.
The committee still intend to recruit a holding midfielder. While transfer talks have not dominated meetings with the coach, the need for extra midfield protection was identified during Fernando Diniz’s tenure, and the search continues.
In his first address, alongside Pedrinho, he backed the squad’s quality and demanded focus on immediate improvement. The players then completed rigorous physical tests and initial ball work under the new staff.
He set out a transition, stressing respect for Diniz’s work, saying he would not start from zero and would reuse what works, while adding his own ideas with his staff to try to move the team off the bottom.
The first fully tactical pitch session is scheduled for Friday. That timetable gives Vasco exactly six uninterrupted days to refine positioning and game dynamics for the decisive meeting with Palmeiras.
