Gazzetta dello Sport have backed Inter Milan’s fury over the refereeing decisions in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Atalanta, declaring that Scalvini’s challenge on Frattesi should have resulted in a penalty and that VAR’s silence was unacceptable.
The outlet analysed both disputed incidents in their match review, via FCInterNews.
On the Dumfries contact that preceded Krstovic’s equaliser, Gazzetta were measured.
Indeed, noting a brush of feet and a minor push.
However, they stopped short of condemning the decision not to intervene.
“In the doubt, it is fair to ask why the Inter player falls from a position of absolute advantage, the contact does not seem overwhelming.”
Their verdict on the Frattesi incident was far more damning.
“There is anticipation and a kick received by Frattesi, Scalvini is late, the kick is clear and not measurable. In the past it has always been a penalty.”
The criticism of VAR was equally pointed: “Gariglio silent, not acceptable.”
Indeed, the AIA privately acknowledged Inter’s case.
Therefore, the consensus is building that the Nerazzurri were denied two points that could prove decisive in the Scudetto race.
If rivals Milan beat Lazio on Sunday, meanwhile, the gap at the top of Serie A will be cut to just five points, with nine games left still to play.
