Win quickly sealed

Our team had no trouble against second-division side SKN St. Pölten, advancing to the round of 16 of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup with a comfortable 3-0 win. Our opponents in the next round will be drawn later this evening. Umut Tohumcu made his first appearance in the starting XI, and Christian Früchtl - who kept a clean sheet - and Jesper Lindstrom also made their debuts for us.

1' – Kick-off at the NV Arena

Our lads took control from the start and dominated the game. We created good chances in the opening minutes, with Aboubacar Camara's close-range effort being saved by the hosts' goalkeeper Christopher Knett. We clearly controlled possession, but had to wait patiently for the first goal in the early stages.

23' – Breakthrough after woodwork

In the 23rd minute, Haris Tabakovic finally put us in the lead. After a clever pass from Frans Krätzig, the striker broke through in the penalty area, and his follow-up put us on the path to victory. Just eight minutes later, Camara doubled the lead after a defensive error by the hosts. The youngster escaped his marker and finished precisely into the near corner.

34' to 45' – All under control

The home side, meanwhile, showed little attacking threat. Our defence stood firm, and because few further chances arose, we maintained our 2-0 lead until halftime.

50' – That sealed it

Although the Lower Austrians started the second half stronger, our team was once again more clinical. In the 50th minute, Bartosz Mazurek made it 3-0 after Edmund Baidoo had initially missed an opportunity.

51' to full-time – plucky hosts

As the second half progressed, and due to the numerous substitutions, that saw Jesper Lindstrom make his debut for our team, the flow of the game slowed somewhat. Despite some efforts from the Lower Austrians, our goal remained unbreached. This was also thanks to Christian Früchtl, making his debut in goal for our Red Bulls, who made two or three excellent saves.

Outlook

With the 3-0 win, our Red Bulls deservedly advance to the next round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup with a solid defensive display and efficient finishing. Our opponents in the round of 16 will be determined later this evening, and we continue our ADMIRAL Bundesliga campaign on Friday against SV Ried.

Views

We had a bit of luck at times today, so first of all, compliments to our opponents. St. Pölten played really well today, finding a good balance between defending and, above all, creating some very good chances. We weren't sharp enough. The 3-0 scoreline is still a fair result. I can't fault my team, even though we need to improve our output in certain areas. Overall, though, today's performance is perfectly acceptable.

Cup matches are never easy. St. Pölten hit the crossbar before their first goal. That can quickly become dangerous. It wasn't our best game, but after taking the 1-0 lead, we managed the game well. In the end, what matters most is that we kept a clean sheet, scored goals, and advanced to the next round. We're on the right track, but we're still at the beginning. Now it's about keeping it up.
