Simone Inzaghi has turned to Al-Hilal’s under-21 players to reinforce training before the Al-Ittihad Clasico on 10 October. The move comes amid a raft of absences during the international window.

Arriyadiyah reports the squad returned on Tuesday after a nine-day break, with several under-21s drafted into sessions to cover gaps in the senior group.

Al-Hilal host Al-Ittihad at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, the standout tie of the eighth round of the Roshn League.

Saudi Arabia call-ups for the Arabian Gulf Cup, Gulf 27, have stripped the group of Mohammed Al-Owais, Hassan Tambakti, Metaab Al-Harbi, Mohammed Mazrahi, Nasser Al-Dawsari, Mohamed Kanno and Sultan Mandash.

Yassine Bounou, Kalidou Koulibaly, Simon Bouabre, Crysencio Summerville, Ruben Neves and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic are also away with their countries.

A win over Al-Ittihad would keep Al-Hilal top. They have 18 points, one clear of Al-Ittihad.

The under-21s sit fourth in the Joy Elite League on 10 points from three wins, a draw and a defeat, three behind leaders Al-Ittihad.
