Ipswich expert backs Conor Townsend to get back on track before West Brom return | OneFootball

Conor Townsend is undergoing a medical on Friday ahead of a return to Albion, and Ipswich Town expert Stuart Watson predicts the 33-year-old can get his career back on track, according to ExpressAndStar.com.

The left-back left The Hawthorns two years ago for Ipswich as competition for Leif Davis for around half a million pounds, having previously spent six years with Albion. He was among several former Baggies to head to Portman Road, including Darnell Furlong, Cedric Kipre, Dara O’Shea, Alex Palmer and David Button.

Townsend made 10 appearances in his first season under Kieran McKenna, six in the Premier League with three starts. Those included the home draw with Villa, the win at Bournemouth and the defeat at Wolves, plus cup outings. He was considered reliable and ready when called upon.

His second season never started. He suffered an ACL injury in pre-season in France on the eve of the campaign, was omitted from the 25-man squad and did not play a minute in the Championship. Rehab stepped up from March, and there is hope he is physically in a good place now.

If the move is completed, Townsend will be understudy to Callum Styles, a reliable regular since replacing him in 2024 and a two-time player of the season last term at The Hawthorns.
