Ipswich Town have announced the news that long-serving manager Joe Sheehan has left the club.

The Tractor Girls revealed the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Sheehan was appointed Ipswich Town manager back in 2019. He twice guided the club to top spot in the FA Women’s National League South East Division but was denied promotion due to the impact of COVID-19 on semi-professional football. The Tractor Girls were finally awarded Tier 3 status in 2021 off the back of a successful application for upward movement.

In their time in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division, Ipswich Town were a constant force at the higher end of the table. They finally won the league title along with promotion to Barclays WSL2 at the end of last season.

Life in the professional game has been tough for Ipswich Town. Hopes were high going into the season but the Suffolk side have taken just five points from an available 33 and they are five points adrift of safety at the halfway mark.

Following Sheehan’s departure, David Wright will oversee first team matters on an interim basis until the end of the season. He will be assisted by Lauren Phillips.

Ipswich Town return to Barclays WSL2 action on Sunday when they play host to Charlton Athletic.
