Norwich City are pushing to sign Kasper Høgh from Bodo/Glimt amid uncertainty over Josh Sargent’s future at Carrow Road.

It was reported earlier this week that the 25-year-old is being targeted this January, with the Canaries looking to bolster their attacking options.

Sargent’s future with the Norfolk outfit has been the subject of intense speculation, and it has now been claimed by journalist Tom Bogert that he has played his last game for the club, with MLS side Toronto FC showing interest.

Høgh enhanced his reputation further this week by scoring twice in the Champions League in a 3-1 win over Manchester City.

The forward has contributed 29 goals in 51 games in the Eliteserien across his two seasons for the Norwegian side.

Kasper Høgh pursuit is a risk for Norwich

When asked if Høgh could potentially be a suitable replacement for Sargent, FLW’s Norwich fan pundit Zeke Downes claimed that it would be a risk to bring in another forward when the team already has Jovon Makama and Mathias Kvistgaarden, even with the threat of the American departing.

He believes that someone of his pedigree would likely be a good addition to the squad, although he’s uncertain if the forward would want to go from playing in the Champions League to fighting at the bottom of the Championship table.

“I think anyone that’s got a goal to game ratio like that, and has played in Europe, obviously in the Europa League, and he’s now in the Champions League, he’s just scored twice against Manchester City [would be a good signing],” Downes told Football League World.

“Which may hinder the move, may get other clubs looking at him, but I’d be happy because he has a bit of pedigree.

“I’d be a bit surprised if he did join, because he’s going to go from the Champions League to near bottom of the Championship.

“It feels a bit odd, unless he’s just been convinced by Clement, and obviously having that big win [Tuesday] would’ve helped that and it might have convinced him.

“But I think it’s a risk signing another striker because we’ve got a first choice striker already.

“Because we’ve got a first choice striker in Makama, and we’ve still got Kvistgaarden, and I would worry that bringing in a third one of a pedigree like that would be either the end of Kvistgaarden or it just wouldn’t work having three strikers that probably want to play.

“So, it is a risk.

“I probably wouldn’t have gone down this route maybe, I’d have maybe gone down the younger, lower league striker route.

“But I completely trust Clement to make the right decision with it, if he wants him then I’m happy with that.”

Norwich are currently 20th in the Championship following their 5-0 win over West Brom midweek, which moved them out of the relegation zone.

The Canaries are now two points clear of 22nd place Blackburn Rovers, although they have played more games than the teams below them in the standings.

Next up for Clement’s side is a home clash against league leaders Coventry City on 26 January in an 8pm kick-off.

Kasper Høgh signing would have a lot of potential for Norwich

Høgh showed midweek the potential he possesses if he did sign for Norwich this month, scoring an impressive brace against one of Europe’s top sides.

It would be an ambitious signing to bring in the Dane, but it could be just what the team needs if Sargent goes before the 2 February deadline.

Norwich need goals in the second half of the campaign if they are to remain in the division, and losing someone of the American’s talent will hurt their attacking output.
