Federico Dimarco was the driving force behind Inter Milan’s dramatic comeback against Pisa and rightly claimed the Panini Player of the Match award after a commanding display at San Siro.

The wing-back changed the course of the contest after coming on, sealing the momentum swing with the goal that made it 4-2 and effectively broke Pisa’s resistance.

Speaking to DAZN after the final whistle, Dimarco explained the mindset he carried onto the pitch.

“I wanted to win,” he said, with quotes via FCInterNews.

“We didn’t start well, but the important thing was to score at least one goal before half-time because we knew the second half would be long.”

Inter managed far more than that.

“Thankfully we scored three. We did well and went on the attack. When you play so often, you can get the approach wrong, but it was important to turn it around and we did that well. We take the three points.”

Dimarco also commented on Francesco Pio Esposito, whose performance earned praise from the Curva Nord.

Asked whether the striker deserves comparisons with Christian Vieri, Dimarco responded with a smile.

“He still has to eat a lot of pasta,” he joked, before adding, “but he’s on the right path.”

The conversation then turned more personal. Dimarco opened up about the work he put in after a difficult previous season and the mental reset that followed.

“I’ve always worked hard in training,” he explained.

“After the bad period last season, I wanted to reset everything. For a month I even disappeared from my friends to reflect on what I needed to improve, also on a personal level.”

That decision proved decisive. “I wanted to start again and I managed to do it,” Dimarco concluded. “I’m happy like this.”

His performance against Pisa felt like a statement.

Beyond the goal and the award, Dimarco showed clarity, leadership and renewed confidence.

The mental journey he described is now translating into decisive moments on the pitch, exactly when Inter need them most.
