Italy have kept Fiorentina defender Niccolò Fortini with the senior squad for the friendlies against Luxembourg and Greece.

According to Football Italia, the late call keeps Fortini on duty for the full window and takes the group from 24 to 25 under interim coach Silvio Baldini.

Baldini was promoted from the Under-21 bench, with the senior side currently without a CT after Gennaro Gattuso’s resignation.

Italy fly to Luxembourg on Tuesday afternoon for Wednesday evening’s match, then return to Florence and Coverciano before travelling to Greece on Sunday night.

Last week four players trained with the group at Coverciano, Tommaso Berti of Cesena, Fiorentina’s Fortini, Gabriele Guarino of Empoli and Atalanta player Dominic Vavassori.

Many of the squad are uncapped, with Baldini opting to hand opportunities to new faces after a tough season in which the Nazionale failed to qualify for the World Cup.
