The experienced shot stopper who was on the bench last night in Celtic’s 3-0 win over Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership, spoke to the mainstream media today as the club’s disgraceful ban on fan media continues.

The new Celtic goalkeeper spoke of the background to his move on loan to the Hoops. “I was training at Wolves and heard about it and got home, went for medical and then packed my bags and got in the car up here.

“So it happened very quickly. I got here late and then was around the training ground on Tuesday and then obviously involved in the game yesterday.

“I was there the other night when it was empty as well, and that was unbelievable. It was a different, obviously, but to see it empty and then last night to see it full.”

Sam earlier in the week spoke of his delight at signing for Celtic, and admitted that he didn’t need any convincing, even when ex-Celtic keeper Joe Hart contacted him with the intention of nudging him in the direction of Glasgow.

“It’s a great feeling, I’m buzzing to be here and I’m excited to get going,” Johnstone told Celtic club media.

“I didn’t need convincing by anyone, but Joe Hart rang me the other day just to reiterate what a place this is, what a great group of lads and how the fans are unbelievable.

“Like I said, I didn’t need convincing, but for someone like that to ring me up and reiterate again the size of the club and what it means to people, it just made me so excited to get here and get started.

“I think everyone knows the goalie groups are a tight-knit group. We work closely together every day and hopefully I can help Vil and he can help me, and we push each other and we support each other along with the other goalies and the goalie coaches.

“You hear about the size of the club, and you know about the size of the club, but just being here for a day, you notice how big the club is.

“And the pressure to win, which is what I like – pressure to win, pressure to perform and we all want to win trophies.

“You hear about the atmosphere at the stadium and that’s something I can’t wait to play in front of.”

Celtic manager Martin O’Neill was also delighted to add the 34 year old to his squad adding: “We are really happy to welcome Sam to Celtic.

“He is a quality keeper with excellent experience at the highest level and I think he will be a very good addition to our goalkeeping team.

“He is really looking forward to joining Celtic, to add competition to our team and we are pleased to bring a goalkeeper of this quality to the club.”

Sam Johnstone, like fellow new Celtic signing Oliver Sørensen, spoke to mainstream media today at Lennoxtown with the Celtic fan media still locked out pending the club’s disingenuous claim that this is under review.
