FLW's Burnley fan pundit has given his reaction to star forward Zian Flemming departing Turf Moor for Ipswich Town in a £20 million deal.

It is fair to say it was a mixed final day of the summer transfer window for Burnley.

After suffering relegation from the Premier League last season, it has been a tough start to life back in the Championship for Burnley, with Nicky Hayen's men picking up just one point from their first three league games and being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League One side Bradford City.

It was a busy end to the transfer window for Burnley as Igor Julio, Reo Hatate and Largie Ramazani arrived at Turf Moor to add some much-needed depth to the club's thin squad.

However, there were also a couple of outgoings, with defender Joe Worrall making a £2 million move to Championship rivals Wrexham, and, in a huge blow to the Clarets, forward Zian Flemming departed for newly-promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town for an initial fee of £17 million, plus a further £3 million in add-ons.

After helping the club to automatic promotion during his loan spell in the 2024-25 campaign, Flemming joined Burnley on a permanent basis last summer for a fee of £7 million, but despite scoring 11 goals in the top flight last season, it was not enough to prevent his side's relegation.

Flemming began this season in fine form for the Clarets, scoring in the Carabao Cup victory over Notts County before netting a brace to earn a comeback point in the 2-2 draw with West Ham United on the opening weekend of the Championship.

Hayen had previously urged Flemming to remain at Burnley, but after a summer of speculation over his future that saw him linked with the likes of Brentford and Lille, Ipswich won the race for the Dutchman's signature on deadline day.

When asked for his reaction to Flemming's exit, FLW's Burnley fan pundit Aaron Wright admitted that his departure is a disaster for the Clarets, and he hit out at the club for selling the 28-year-old for such a low fee and without bringing in a replacement.

"From a Burnley point of view, Zian Flemming to Ipswich is one of the singular worst pieces of business of the entire summer," Aaron told FLW.

"As a footballer, is he about a £20 million footballer? Yes, but the fee is derisory for what he was worth to Burnley.

"He was everything to us.

"We have no attack.

"I don't think there's a single team in the Championship that would take any of our remaining strikers.

"The fee for Flemming basically funded the rest of our deadline day.

"It's one of the worst pieces of business I've ever seen, it's absolutely appalling.

"We're just not going to score goals, nobody can give you any confidence.

"It's appalling on every level.

"To not bring in a replacement in, and, if Sky are truthful, to just throw an enquiry out there on deadline day for Vipotnik, which Swansea rightly almost just laughed at, is just appalling.

"To have nobody in the building who can score a goal is an absolute disgrace when you have a £60-70 million strikeforce, it's an absolute embarrassment.

"To sell him for that little is negligent."

It was reported in the final stages of the transfer window that Flemming had made it clear to Burnley that he was keen to leave the club, so while his departure is not necessarily a surprise, supporters will be furious that he has not been replaced.

The Clarets are believed to have made a late move for Swansea City striker Zan Vipotnik, who was the Championship's top scorer with 23 goals last season, but he rejected the opportunity to make the switch to Turf Moor.

While the signing of Vipotnik would have been a big statement of intent for Burnley, the fact that they waited until the final day of the transfer window to step up their pursuit of the Slovenian international does not reflect well on the board.

With Flemming no longer at the club, the Clarets are incredibly light on quality options in the forward areas, and Pace has serious questions to answer about why a proven striker was not recruited, despite the club bringing in a significant amount from player sales this summer.
