Jaka Bijol says the depth of Leeds United’s rivalry with Manchester United was clear in the Anfield dressing room, where attention quickly shifted to Sunday’s Elland Road clash. The Slovenian had just helped secure a clean sheet and a point against Liverpool.

As reported by yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the summer signing is among several newcomers in Daniel Farke’s squad, recruited for a Premier League survival push. Club veterans and staff have impressed on arrivals the hostility with the neighbours across the Pennines, including the preference not to call Manchester United simply United.

Bijol said conversations after the final whistle focused on bringing energy and delivering a strong performance at the weekend. He expects a full Elland Road to be electric and stressed the group aim to give 100 per cent every match, with derbies adding an extra edge.

He is no stranger to heated fixtures, having faced Spartak Moscow eight times for CSKA Moscow. In six league meetings he won four, drew one and lost one, while both cup quarter-finals ended in defeat.

At international level he headed a 90th-minute equaliser against Croatia. He noted that such derbies in Russia were big occasions, yet the intensity in England demands top level every week, and he accepts this one is special. Even so, Sunday represents a fresh experience.
