The 47-year-old is one of the Hammers' most famous supporters, having been involved in several British television shows as an award-winning actor, comedian and writer.

But he, like the rest of the crowd at the London Stadium, are getting used to the fact this is West Ham's first Championship season in 14 years, having initially made great strides of progress on the pitch following their promotion in 2012, even if the move from Upton Park to their E20 home a decade ago was met with mass controversy.

Under Nuno Espírito Santo, the East London club are being tipped as hot favourites to win the second tier at the first time of asking due to the strength of their squad, even though a mass amount of transfer business has not been conducted, as well as the Portuguese's prior experience of lifting the title during his Wolves days.

However, Corden has revealed his soft spot for the Chairboys, who are currently a division below.

Despite being born in Hillingdon, Corden was brought up in Hazlemere, Buckinghamshire, approximately 2 miles away from Wycombe, and has now revealed that he used to attend matches at Loakes Park, where the club played until 1990, when they moved to their current ground, Adams Park, which holds 10,466 supporters.

In an interview with Buckinghamshire New University, which was relayed by Wycombe's social media channels, Corden said: I do have an incredible soft spot for Wycombe Wanderers.

"I always look out for their results, and part of me wishes I just stayed true to Wycombe. I think it would've been purer.

"I used to go to the old Loakes Park when it was sloped and you could change ends (at half-time)," he explained.

"You could stand behind the goal at the way they were kicking and then the fans would change ends to the other side, and the pitch was on a slope.

"I used to go there, then Martin O'Neill came in, and Jason Cousins was the captain, and he was an absolute legend, then to Adams Park.

"Then I just started concentrating solely on work all the time and then I started supporting West Ham," Corden continued.

"Maybe it will come back around again. We have a piece of the turf from Loakes Park planted in our garden."

Wycombe fans react to James Corden's Chairboys revelations

Unsurprisingly, Corden's revelations haven't gone down the greatest with Chairboys fans, some of whom are questioning how the actor's work commitments meant he would switch allegiances to West Ham, who, in May, he revealed one day, he could even own.

"The pitch slope was side to side (6ft) not lengthwise which he describes. He would have been very young to have watched a game at Loakes Park," said one supporter.

“We know we’re leaving an announcement for what’s going on with the terrace until the last minute physically possible and causing issues for everyone but have you considered….James Corden," another Wycombe fan wrote, suggesting all is not well at the club right now.

Despite being heavily involved in footballing charity work such as Soccer Aid, Corden is clearly not everyone's favourite, with another Chairboys regular questioning: Are we trying to kill our attendances even more???"

One rather humourous response read: "He can come if he brings 2 million pounds for Jayden Wareham ? Fair I think so," after Wycombe failed with an initial bid for the Exeter City striker.

This season is Michael Duff's first full season at the Wycombe helm after replacing Mike Dodds last Autumn, with the former Northern Ireland international defender boasting a solid record at League One level.

Wycombe rectified a slow start to last season to finish in a respectable 11th place, but after finishing inside the play-off positions two seasons ago before suffering semi-final heartache, they will be hoping to regain a spot back in the top six despite it looking extremely tough with sides such as Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday now in the third tier.
