Javi López to join Feyenoord on loan with option to buy | OneFootball

Javi López will join Feyenoord on a season-long loan, with a non-obligatory purchase option, as the deal moves into its final stages.

According to Diario Vasco, the Dutch side pushed for a loan with an option rather than a permanent transfer, a formula Real Sociedad accepted, with the option fee still to be set.

The 24-year-old is heading for a second straight loan after playing for Real Oviedo in Primera División. He had hoped to convince Pellegrino Matarazzo in pre-season and compete with Sergio Gómez, Aihen and Balda, and has featured in most friendlies.

Sporting de Portugal also showed interest in a permanent deal, but Feyenoord’s proposal has advanced. Both clubs will be in the next Champions League. Giovanni van Bronckhorst is in charge and left-backs Jordan Bos and Gijs Smal are sidelined, so López could step straight into the side. Feyenoord won their Eredivisie opener and face Go Ahead Eagles on Sunday.

López trained on Thursday under Matarazzo as talks progressed. On Wednesday night he told family and friends at Donostia’s Semana Grande fireworks that the Feyenoord move was close.

Real paid 6.5 million euros in summer 2024 after his standout year at Alavés. A Spain under-21 international, he has admitted the pressure told last season. He is under contract to 2030 and, with a purchase option included, his txuri-urdin future is open.
