Jeff Bezos and Eduardo Saverin set to buy one-third of Liverpool in blockbuster $2bn minority stake agreement | OneFootball

A consortium including the Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin is closing in on a deal to buy a one-third stake in Liverpool Football Club.

An announcement on the minority stake purchase is expected as early this week, with Fenway Sports Group set to sanction the sale in a deal that will one of the most lucrative in sport's history.

The consortium is being led by by Amit Bhatia, a former shareholder at Queens Park Rangers and the son-in-law of steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal. Both Bezos and Saverin are involved in the purchase, whichSky News claim reportedly values Liverpool at $6bn.

Bezos' involvement will see one of the richest people on the planet become involved in thePremier League.

The Amazon founder has an estimated fortune of over $280bn, according to Forbes, which ranks him as the fourth-richest individual in the world. Saverin, who co-founded social media giant Facebook, has a personal wealth of over $32bn.

The sale, which is estimated to equate to around $2bn for a stake of roughly 30%, will represent a remarkable piece of business for Fenway Sports Group.

The club's American owners, who also own The Boston Red Sox, purchased Liverpool for just £300m in October 2010, with the club financially troubled.

Under FSG's ownership, Liverpool have won twoPremier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, three League Cups, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
