Cardiff City, Norwich City, and Preston North End must be on alert in case Jesurun Rak-Sakyi becomes available from Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have a big decision to make on the future of winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi this summer, as FLW takes a look at three Championship teams that must be on alert in case his services become available.

Rak-Sakyi, 23, spent time in the youth system of Chelsea before joining Crystal Palace in 2020, where he featured regularly for the club's youth teams before exploding onto the scene during a loan spell with Charlton Athletic in the 2022/23 season.

With the Addicks, Rak-Sakyi netted 15 and grabbed eight assists in 43 League One games in East London, but would remain on the fringes of the Palace first team for the next campaign, making just six Premier League appearances.

The winger has since spent time out on loan in the Championship with both Sheffield United and Stoke City, as well as a spell in the Turkish top flight with Rizespor, to varying degrees of success.

With incoming Palace boss Pierre Sage yet to make a final decision on the future of Rak-Sakyi, FLW has taken a look at three clubs that ought to be on high alert in case he becomes available within the coming weeks.

Cardiff City

Since confirming their swift return to the Championship, Cardiff City have had a relatively quiet summer, with Irish head coach Brian Barry-Murphy adding just one fresh face to the mix this summer.

Nathan Trott has returned to the Welsh capital after a solid loan spell from FC Copenhagen, whilst former Lincoln City midfielder Jack Moylan remains their only new addition thus far.

With the Bluebirds thrashing Italian top-flight side Roma 4-1 in a pre-season friendly, Barry-Murphy will likely be content with his squad heading into the campaign, with each of Ollie Tanner, Isaak Davies, Chris Willock, and Cian Ashford as options on the wing.

However, Cardiff mustn't rest on their laurels, and should look to make some attacking reinforcements before the September 1st deadline, with Rak-Sakyi being a player they ought to consider.

His contract at Selhurst Park is due to expire next summer, as Palace will almost certainly look to try and cash in on him whilst they still can, as Cardiff should be at the front of the queue.

With ample Championship experience under his belt, and still only 23, the Ghanaian has ample time to improve on his game, and could be a real coup for Cardiff.

Norwich City

Norwich City have been ravaged by injury woes over the past few years, especially in forward areas, and following the news of Canadian winger Ali Ahmed having ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament recently, that trend doesn't appear to have changed just yet.

Each of Antre Crnac, Matej Jurasek, Pape Diallo, and Jovon Makama have also been on the end of some disappointing injury news across the last year or so, as Belgian head coach Philippe Clement must be wondering whether they are cursed.

The £8 million addition of Andre Brooks from Sheffield United will provide another option on the right flank, whilst Bologna winger Benjamin Dominguez has recently emerged as a player of interest to the Canaries to fill that void.

However, Clement should instead be considering a move for Palace's Rak-Sakyi instead, with the 23-year-old capable of playing off either flank, or even at left-back, as he did during his time on loan with Stoke last year.

With nine goals and two assists in 52 appearances during his time in the Championship with Sheffield United and Stoke, his numbers aren't exactly awe-inspiring, but there is every reason to believe they can improve.

Preston North End have had a relatively low-key transfer window, and with the start of the Championship campaign right around the corner, supporters at Deepdale will be desperate for a few more incomings between now and the end of the window.

Lee Nicholls and Alfie Devine have penned permanent deals in Lancashire, the latter for a club-record £6 million, whilst Jusef Erabi and Delano Burgzorg have joined on season-long loans to give head coach Paul Heckingbottom a couple more options up top.

The former Leeds United and Sheffield United boss has looked more willing to utilise a back four system in pre-season, opening up the possibility of wingers into the North End squad, where Rak-Sakyi could slot in.

With Preston having lost all four of their pre-season fixtures against Sheffield Wednesday, Cambridge United, Bradford City, and Stockport County, fresh faces around Deepdale are a necessity, and an exciting winger like Rak-Sakyi could be the key to unlock their attack.

Preston have always tended to do well in the loan market over recent years, having found success with each of Tom Cannon, Kaine Kesler-Hayden, Harrison Armstrong, and more recently Lewis Dobbin, Daniel Jebbison, and Devine, but now, they should continue to use what funds they have to improve the squad further.
