Birmingham City are casting their eyes on Rob Edwards as a possible replacement for Chris Davies

Rob Edwards has emerged as a potential candidate to take over at Birmingham City if Chris Davies is sacked.

According to Football Insider, the Blues are keeping tabs on the former Wolves boss amid growing pressure on the current head coach.

Davies is now into his third season at St. Andrew’s, but has faced the threat of dismissal previously during difficult runs of form last season.

The 41-year-old guided the Midlands outfit to promotion from League One in his first year with the club, earning a record 111 points in the process.

And Birmingham finished 10th in the Championship in 2025/26, securing their best league finish since 2015/16.

However, owners Knighthead Capital’s ambitions are to return the team to the Premier League as quickly as possible after investing heavily in the first team squad.

It’s believed that Edwards is on Birmingham’s radar as a possible option to replace Davies, with pressure mounting on his position.

The upcoming international break, which has been extended by a further week from this season, offers clubs an opportunity for an early change in the dugout.

And Birmingham are weighing up all of their options, with Scott Parker and Sean Dyche also being linked with the potential vacancy.

However, Edwards is attracting interest from Crystal Palace as well, who have made a tricky start to life under new manager Pierre Sage, who was appointed in the summer.

It’s understood that the 43-year-old is admired by the Blues’ hierarchy, and will look to bring him in if Davies can’t get the side competing for a play-off place.

Birmingham have earned 10 points from their opening seven league games, and sit 10th in the table, just four points behind leaders West Ham.

Edwards has been tipped as the ideal candidate to replace Davies, if a change in the dugout is made soon.

Many supporters have named the ex-Wolves manager as an option, but there are other names such as Kieran McKenna and Steve Cooper are also in consideration.

Ultimately, many fans believe that Edwards could be an upgrade on Davies, and would be happy to see him join the club.

However, not everybody is convinced that he would be the man to bring Birmingham forward long-term after his disappointing spell at Molineux.

Next up for Davies’ side is a home clash against Middlesbrough on 19 September in a 3pm kick-off.

It’s difficult for Davies to be constantly having his position at Birmingham a major topic of speculation, especially as he’s done a solid job for the club.

However, it’s clear that Knighthead Capital wants results immediately for the money they've spent on the first team, and if he can’t deliver then they will get somebody else.

And Edwards is a coach with promotion pedigree and Premier League experience, so it’s not surprising that he’d be on their radar.

The Wolves stint was doomed from the start, and he never had much of a chance, but his time at Luton Town and Middlesbrough show why he could be a success at St. Andrew’s.
