Jhon Arias has suffered a minor right thigh injury and will miss Palmeiras’ visit to Mirassol on Sunday. Team-mate Piquerez has right thigh oedema, while Gustavo Gómez was cleared after tests following a precautionary half-time withdrawal.
The squad returned to training on Thursday morning, a day after a 3-0 win over Santos in the Copa do Brasil at Nubank Parque. According to Nosso Palestra, attention has turned to the Brasileirão fixture at Campos Maia on 30 August at 18:30, with Palmeiras leading on 51 points.
In the reverse meeting, Palmeiras won 1-0 in São Paulo thanks to Flaco López. Starters completed recovery work in the club’s neuroscience centre, the remaining players trained in small-sided technical drills.
Midfielder Emi Martínez said the team are in good form, noting leadership in the league and progress to the last eight of both the Copa do Brasil and CONMEBOL Libertadores. He praised the depth and said everyone who comes in is prepared, which he feels helps the collective.
Martínez believes Mirassol will be difficult but says the focus must stay on every game if titles are to follow, adding they are preparing to take three points. He has 50 wins in 76 Palmeiras appearances, trailing fellow Uruguayans Diogo on 62, Villadoniga on 85 and Piquerez on 152.
Palmeiras have lost two of their last 14 away league matches, both in Rio de Janeiro to Vasco and Fluminense, winning nine and drawing three.
