Jhon Lucumí is understood to be edging towards a Bologna exit after rejecting two further contract offers, with Sunderland and Manchester City previously linked. According to Sunderland Echo, the Colombian has twice turned down extensions and could be set for movement in the summer, though the Black Cats are not planning to revive their interest.

Lucumí was heavily tipped for Wearside during the summer window, but stayed after Bologna refused to sanction a sale.

Since then the Serie A club have pursued a long-term agreement, with his current deal running to 2027. In October, discussions over an extension were ongoing, Bologna keen for him to stay, with his response uncertain, and his professionalism after a missed Premier League move widely noted. There was also hope that January business would be minimal.

Speculation has persisted regardless. Last month the centre-back was floated as a cut-price option for injury-hit Manchester City. The latest reporting said talks were expected to reopen in mid-January and that he is getting closer to leaving in the summer.

After a thigh problem, Lucumí returned at the weekend and completed the full 90 minutes in Bologna’s 1-0 stoppage-time defeat to Parma.
