João Basso bids farewell to Santos after early contract termination | OneFootball

According to Diario Do Peixe, Santos confirmed on Tuesday 3 the early termination of defender João Basso’s contract. The deal had been due to run until the end of this year but was ended after he fell out of the club’s plans. He posted a farewell on social media.

On Instagram, Basso thanked Santos for the past three years, said he always respected the institution and gave 100 percent, and expressed hope the team returns to its rightful prominence. He added that wearing the shirt will remain a major source of pride.

Signed from Arouca in 2023, he played 14 times that year, enjoying a starting run between August and October before a grade 2 left hamstring injury in a clássico against Corinthians at Neo Química Arena. He returned only in the final stretch, and the transfer was later linked to a transfer ban until debts to the Portuguese club were settled.

At the start of 2024 he joined Estoril on loan, making 14 appearances. Back at Santos mid-year, he was reintegrated after no satisfactory offers arrived, then featured eight times in Série B and scored two goals.

In 2025 he returned after seven months out, featuring in the clássico with São Paulo at Vila Belmiro in the Brasileirão. His previous outing had been the 2-2 draw at Sport on 26 July last year, and he later came on late against Athletico Paranaense, where an error led to the late winner.

Last season he totalled 15 appearances and one goal across the Paulista, Copa do Brasil and Série A, plus friendlies with Coritiba, Desportiva Ferroviária and RB Leipzig. He scored against Sport before a left adductor injury ruled him out for about a month, missing matches with Juventude, Cruzeiro, Vasco, Bahia and Fluminense. He now departs after three seasons connected to the club.
