Morocco strengthened their national team staff by appointing Portuguese coach Joao Sacramento as assistant to new manager Mohamed Ouahbi.

New technical era for Morocco

The Morocco national team has entered a new phase after appointing Mohamed Ouahbi as head coach replacing Walid Regragui.

To support the new manager, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation confirmed the arrival of Portuguese coach Joao Sacramento as first assistant coach.

The decision reflects Morocco’s desire to bring modern European experience into the national team setup and strengthen the tactical work of one of Africa’s strongest teams in recent years.

A young coach with strong european experience

Sacramento is known in European football for his strong focus on tactical analysis and match preparation. Despite his young age, he has worked with several top coaches including Jose Mourinho.

Born on 31 January 1989 in Barcelos, Portugal, Sacramento chose different path from many coaches.

Instead of a long playing career, he focused early on sports science and coaching studies specializing in match analysis and tactical planning.

This academic background helped him build a reputation for detailed preparation and careful study of opponents.

Career built around elite clubs

Sacramento started his professional journey at Lille where he worked as assistant coach between 2017 and 2019. The experience in Ligue 1 helped him develop his tactical understanding and gain valuable experience at a high level.

His reputation grew further when he joined Mourinho’s staff at Tottenham Hotspur in 2019 working on opponent analysis and tactical planning.

He later followed Mourinho to AS Roma continuing to work in top European competitions. Sacramento also spent time working with Christophe Galtier at Paris Saint-Germain gaining experience in managing teams filled with global stars.

Short experience as head coach

After several years as assistant, Sacramento decided to test himself as a head coach. He took charge of LASK Linz in Austria. The spell was brief but it gave him important experience in leading a team and making direct technical decisions.

The experience added another layer to his coaching profile before returning to a supporting role.

What he brings to Morocco

Sacramento’s arrival is seen as an important step for Morocco as the team prepares for upcoming continental and international competitions.

His experience in European football is expected to help improve tactical preparation and opponent analysis.

Working alongside Mohamed Ouahbi, Sacramento will likely focus on match strategy and technical planning as Morocco aims to keep its place among the top teams in African football.
