Joe Anderson has joined Accrington Stanley on a two-year deal, the left-sided centre-back leaving Barrow after their relegation and sealing an immediate return to the EFL.

According to Sunderland Echo, the 25-year-old departed following Barrow's drop from League Two, having made 14 appearances after a January move from Sunderland.

He had arrived at Sunderland from Everton in January 2023 and made his senior debut the following month in a 1-1 Championship draw at Millwall as a late substitute.

Anderson totalled seven senior outings for Sunderland, then spent 2023-24 on loan at Shrewsbury Town in League One, playing 30 times before returning to Wearside.

He came through Liverpool's academy before switching to Everton at 15 in 2016, signing a first professional deal in 2019 and later an extension before his Sunderland move.

Accrington head coach John Doolan highlighted his EFL experience and drive, describing him as a left-sided centre-half and saying he will seize the chance next season.
