Joel Asoro should leave Metz for Apollon Limassol this week after ending his loan at Djurgardens, with a deal dependent on no late hitch. The 27-year-old still has a year left on his Metz contract.
According to L'Équipe, the Sweden international, capped twice with one goal, was recruited in 2023 on a four-year deal and had been loaned back to Djurgardens until 15 August. The Swedish club has already allowed him to fly to Cyprus to complete a permanent switch.
Metz paid €1.5m for Asoro during Pierre Dreossi’s tenure after two strong seasons in Sweden. He made 53 appearances for Metz, scoring five, but never established himself under four different coaches since 2023.
He began brightly in his first two months and was a smiling presence on arrival in Moselle. Inside the club, he at times caused irritation by distancing himself during training or club activities, and he turned down several possible moves in recent windows.
For Metz, a parting now would be close to a relief after a fit that never took hold.
