According to ExpressAndStar.com, former West Brom loanee Jordan Hugill is set to drop into non-league, with a free transfer to Hartlepool United reportedly close.
The striker turned 34 this week and is a free agent after leaving Rotherham, where he has been since 2023.
Hugill spent the first half of 2021/22 at The Hawthorns on loan from Norwich, newly promoted to the Premier League as Championship winners. He scored once in 20 appearances under Valerien Ismael, netting in a 3-0 win over Bristol City in October.
He returned to Norwich at the end of January after Albion moved for Orlando City forward Daryl Dike in a £7 million deal and free agent Andy Carroll. Ismael soon lost his job and was replaced by Steve Bruce.
Hartlepool finished ninth in the National League last season and appointed former Newcastle man Lee Clark as head coach last month.
The high point of Hugill’s career came at Preston, with 30 goals across a little more than three seasons in the second tier, earning a £10 million switch to Premier League West Ham. He featured only three times there.
For Rotherham he scored 17 in 128 appearances, including a brace in a 3-1 New York Stadium victory over Albion, then led by Carlos Corberan, in April 2023.
