Jordan James has explained that he views Wolves as a 'Premier League club' after making the move to Molineux ahead of other options.

Jordan James believes he has joined a ‘Premier League club’ in Wolverhampton Wanderers after turning down several clubs to move to Molineux.

The Welsh international was a player in demand after his outstanding season at Leicester City last time out, where he scored 11 goals in 34 games after joining on loan from Rennes, which saw the 22-year-old named as Young Player of the Year in the division.

However, with the Foxes suffering relegation to League One, they were never going to be able to sign James on a permanent basis, so there has been plenty of speculation surrounding his future.

The likes of Wrexham, Middlesbrough, West Ham and Burnley were all believed to be among the suitors for James, but he ultimately decided on Wolves.

And, speaking to the club’s media, James explained that it was the size of the club that convinced him to return to the Midlands.

“Big club. I see it as a Premier League club, that’s why I’ve come here. Talented players, talented squad, and I’m ready to go.”

James made his debut from the bench against Preston on Saturday as Cesar Peixoto’s side ran out 3-1 winners at Deepdale.

Wolves must deliver on their tag as promotion favourites

Obviously, the debate about the size of clubs is subjective, but most would agree that Wolves are among the biggest in the league.

But, most importantly, the resources they have following their relegation means they are expected to go up this season, along with West Ham.

Like all players, James will have ambitions of reaching the Premier League, and he clearly feels he can achieve that at Wolves, and they will have underachieved if they haven’t returned to the top flight this season, even if that seems harsh.

Following on from that, James’ arrival is certainly going to help Wolves in their promotion push this season, because, as outlined above, he is a quality player at this level, as he has shown in the past.

As well as that, he is exactly the profile that they are lacking in the middle of the park, as he can combine physicality with a real goal threat, and he is also assured in possession.

So, the prospect of James partnering Andre, with Fer Lopez just in front, is something that will excite all Wolves fans, and they have the potential to be the best midfield trio in the league.

But, with Marshall Munetsi and Tommy Doyle at the club, and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde set to return from injury in a few weeks, James knows that his standards can’t drop if he is to maintain a place in the Wolves XI moving forward.

That’s exactly what Peixoto will want, and it’s down to the head coach to find the right formula, but it’s evident that he is working with a very good squad, although a few more additions may be required ahead of the deadline, with Wolves lacking depth in the final third.
