Ajax have signed Sunderland winger Simon Adingra on a season-long loan for 2026-27, with an option to buy next summer. Technical director Jordi Cruijff outlined the attributes that drew the club to the 24-year-old as he heads to Amsterdam.

According to Sunderland Echo, the agreement is structured as a package worth up to £17.1m, with Dutch reports indicating around €3.8m for the loan and salary this season and an option priced at €16m, about £13.8m.

The move was finalised after the English transfer window closed. Adingra joined Sunderland from Brighton in 2025, played 15 times and scored once in the first half of last season, then headed to Monaco on loan.

Cruijff said Ajax targeted Adingra’s pace, direct running and mentality, believing those qualities could add immediate attacking threat. He added that the player has backed the plan laid out for him in Amsterdam.

The Ivory Coast international emerged from Ghana’s Right to Dream Academy, moved to FC Nordsjaelland in 2021, then joined Brighton the following summer. He spent time on loan at Union Saint-Gilloise and made 73 appearances for the Premier League club before switching to Sunderland.
