Lazio have been offered the chance to sign West Ham United forward Pablo Felipe, with Jorge Mendes said to have made the approach. According to Il Messaggero, the Biancocelesti had tracked the 22-year-old before his January move to London.
New head coach Gennaro Gattuso has made a striker the club’s top priority, and recent links include Senegalese free agent Bamba Dieng, Napoli’s Lorenzo Lucca and AC Milan wantaway Santiago Gimenez.
Born and raised in Portugal, the Brazilian began at Famalicão and broke through at Gil Vicente. After scoring 10 goals in 13 league matches in the first half of the season, West Ham paid €25 million in January.
Although primarily a centre-forward, Nuno Espirito Santo used him in a supporting role behind Taty Castellanos. The Argentine also arrived in January after a €30 million switch from Lazio, who struggled to replace him despite bringing in Petar Ratkov and Daniel Maldini.
Neither Castellanos nor Pablo could rescue West Ham’s campaign, which ended in relegation to the Championship on the final day. That demotion could trigger departures, and the Portuguese-Brazilian is among those who may move. It remains to be seen if Lazio will spend on the Braga native, who could operate across Gattuso’s 4-2-3-1 but would likely lead the line.
