West Ham and Sheffield Wednesday won't believe the latest twist in the Jamie Vardy transfer saga

Jamie Vardy’s future has become a massively intriguing element of the final weeks of this transfer window amid interest from West Ham and Sheffield Wednesday.

The 39-year-old is currently a free agent, and thus is not restricted by the 1 September deadline in terms of determining the next step in his career.

But it would make sense for the forward to come to a conclusion before August is over given the league seasons will be back underway across Europe by then.

The Hammers started the Championship off with a 2-2 draw away to Burnley, while his boyhood club won 2-1 against Leyton Orient in their first League One game of the new term.

And while it remains unclear what the future holds for Vardy, the intensity of the speculation has increased and we must now be closing in on a resolution.

However, recent links have emerged suggesting that Brazilian club Sao Paulo are also interested in his services, offering a major twist in this transfer tussle.

The possibility of moving to one of the giants of South American football could be quite enticing for the former England international.

He has done everything he can achieve in England, winning the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Championship.

A move to Brazil is likely to never come again, so this would be one last chance to compete at the highest level somewhere.

It would be quite surprising if he did ultimately make the move to the Southern Hemisphere given it would put him so far away from his family.

There will be a little voice whispering in his head that this is an amazing opportunity, but the reality is that a return to English football is the more sensible option at this stage in his life.

The 39-year-old enjoyed a successful adventure in Italy last season, where he showed what he can still do in one of Europe’s major leagues.

But now is the right time to come back to England and begin to wind down his playing career, and start to focus on what’s next for him after football.

Jamie Vardy to West Ham take setback

Vardy was first linked with a possible move to West Ham earlier this month as it became clear that the Hammers are looking to bolster their attacking options.

The London outfit were seeking a deal for Troy Parrott, which has now collapsed, but they are instead pursuing a move for Leeds United’s Joel Piroe.

If Nuno Espírito Santo adds the Dutchman to his ranks, then the need for the signing of Vardy decreases significantly.

So even if he does turn down a move to Brazil, the switch to the London Stadium may not be on the cards either.

Vardy has top level experience, and would no doubt be a strong presence to have in the dressing room, but if he won’t be playing then it won’t be beneficial to anyone for him to join.

Vardy is a boyhood Sheffield Wednesday supporter, and new owner David Storch has made it clear that the Owls would love to bring him to Hillsborough.

While the forward could likely compete at a higher level than League One at the moment, this is a great chance to finally play for the Yorkshire outfit.

Arise Capital took over at Hillsborough in May, taking the club out of administration, and have made an ambitious start to life as the new owners.

Bringing in Vardy would be a statement signing, and would generate a lot of excitement from supporters about the new era for Sheffield Wednesday.
