José Boto hails Flamengo Ballon d'Or shortlist and praises Filipe Luís legacy | OneFootball

According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo have been shortlisted for the Ballon d'Or Club of the Year, run by France Football, with director José Boto highlighting Filipe Luís's role and the award's significance to the club.

The Rio side are one of five finalists alongside Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Bodø/Glimt.

The judging period runs from 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2026, during which Flamengo won the 2025 Copa Libertadores and the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Filipe Luís oversaw triumphs in the Campeonato Carioca, Supercopa do Brasil, Brasileiro and Libertadores, and led Flamengo to a Club World Cup final against PSG that was decided on penalties.

He closed that year with the most trophies in a single season in the club’s history. He now manages Monaco and remains unbeaten with the European side.

Boto framed the nomination as collective recognition for president BAP's administration, for Filipe Luís's work and now Leonardo Jardim's, and for staff who have helped lift Flamengo's standards to those of a European club, adding that even being nominated already feels like a major prize.

Jardim said the shortlist reflects the intensity of work at the club and sends an extremely strong message to supporters that Flamengo are among the world's most representative teams, and he expressed pride at being part of it.

Having succeeded Filipe Luís, Jardim now leads the Brasileirão and is preparing for the Libertadores quarter-final first leg against Independiente del Valle in Quito on Thursday 10 at 21:30 Brasília time.
