In the second half of the league, he has held only one pre-match press conference, on the eve of the Alverca game. There was no open press conference before Rio Ave, Tondela or Estrela da Amadora.

The approach may be intended to avoid fuelling speculation that Mourinho could take the Portugal job if Roberto Martínez departs after the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

After the Alverca match, the 65-year-old reached a notable landmark, recording an 18th successive Liga Portuguesa win, with goals from Andreas Schjelderup and Anísio Cabral decisive.

Benfica face Santa Clara on Friday 13 in Liga Portugal Betclic matchday 22, a 18.30 kick-off at Estádio de São Miguel in the Azores. They want a win to stay in the title race.
