Jose Sa has signed a new Wolves contract running to the end of the 2027/28 season.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 33-year-old, capped five times by Portugal, has spent five years at Molineux and was linked with a move away all summer.

He missed the first two matches of the campaign, then returned for the 3-1 win at Preston North End.

Technical director Matt Jackson said Sa has proved his level, is a big character in the dressing room and a major asset, adding the extension brings stability and security.

He noted the final year of a contract can be difficult for some, though Sa is mentally tough and experienced.

Jackson highlighted a summer overhaul that enabled Dan Bentley to return to the Premier League with Coventry and Sam Johnstone to join Celtic on loan after shoulder surgery.

He added Wolves now have three professional goalkeepers of a proven standard to build around this season, with Joao Virginia and John Ruddy among the arrivals.

Sa had been expected to depart as part of that reshuffle, with Bentley taking the gloves for much of pre-season.

Head coach Cesar Peixoto was not fully certain late last week that Sa would stay, but the goalkeeper now has the chance to add to 174 Wolves appearances and 41 clean sheets.
