Thomas Tuchel will name his England squad on Friday, and Fulham teenager Josh King is awaiting news of a possible first call-up. According to Hounslow Herald, the 19-year-old’s form has pushed him into contention for the upcoming international break.

Tuchel has ample options in the No 10 role, King’s preferred position. Cole Palmer and Morgan Gibbs-White missed last summer’s World Cup, yet the manager knows that pair from past squads, so he may want a closer look at King after a sharp start.

Head coach Álvaro Arbeloa said he does not know if a call is coming, but argued there are few his age playing at this level. Having studied last season and pre-season, he praised King’s talent, personality and conviction, and said he thinks the youngster will be very important for England.

King made 32 league appearances in last season’s breakout under Marco Silva, and he has started every Premier League match for Arbeloa. He scored in the chaotic 3-2 opening defeat to Chelsea at Craven Cottage, then struck first against Crystal Palace in another 3-2 reverse and helped fashion the second with a dummy and sharp turn.

A regular with England’s under-21s, King also joined Alex Scott, Rio Ngumoha and Ethan Nwaneri at England’s pre-tournament training camp in Florida, keeping him on Tuchel’s radar. A place in the upcoming camp would let the manager assess him up close and within the group, even without a first cap, with team chemistry and temperament key factors.
