Josh Windass praised the Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford fans after over 33,000 were in Hillsborough for the League One clash.
Josh Windass praised the Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford supporters for the atmosphere they created during their League One clash on Thursday night.
Over 33,000 fans packed into Hillsborough for the game between the Yorkshire rivals, and it turned out to be an exciting game.
Henrik Pedersen’s side made an electric start, but a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping meant they were unable to capitalise on their early dominance.

And, the Owls were made to pay for that, as Aden Baldwin struck in the 47th minute in front of the sold-out away end, after a much-improved second half from Bradford.
This was always going to be a big occasion for both clubs, as Wednesday have been through a lot over the past few years.
However, Arise Capital Partners’ takeover was completed in May, and the final game of last season, against West Brom, was a party atmosphere.

But, this was their first home league game with the new-look team, so the fans arrived at Hillsborough with optimism and excitement for the first time in a long time.
Meanwhile, this was always going to be the fixture that Bradford fans looked for after Wednesday’s relegation, and they sold out their 2,400 allocation, which helped generate a real noise.
And, taking to his Instagram story, Wrexham’s Windass shared an image of his TV as he sat back to watch the game, and he made a reference to the fans on both sides.
“2 proper clubs Sheffield Wednesday vs Bradford City. This sort of atmosphere in League One is mental.”

Windass has a connection to both clubs, as he obviously spent over five years at Wednesday, scoring 50 goals in 173 games, and some of those were very memorable ones, including a winner in the play-off final against Barnsley.
As well as that, Windass’ Dad, Dean, played for both clubs during his career, although he is better remembered for his time at Valley Parade, where Josh would’ve grown up watching him play.
This was a good game between two sides that will expect to be in the mix for the play-offs, at least, come May.
As outlined above, the fans and atmosphere made it feel like a big occasion, and it was going to be a chance for the two sides to see where they are at this early stage in the campaign.
Ultimately, it was Bradford who picked up the points, and they will feel they deserved the win as they managed to weather the early storm, and then they were much more assured and comfortable as the game progressed, even if Wednesday did miss a huge chance with almost the last kick.
So, it was great for Graham Alexander’s side to get the win, but this was also a good night for the EFL and English football in general, as there aren’t many countries in the world that would get such an attendance for a third tier game.
