Josh Windass and Barry Bannan shared the pitch for Sheffield Wednesday together on 164 occasions across all competitions, but how do their market values compare to one another?

Windass and Bannan were two of the first names on the Wednesday team sheet between 2020 and 2025, but both have since left the club.

In Windass' case, the 32-year-old joined Wrexham in the summer of 2025 on a free transfer, with Wednesday going through all sorts of financial troubles, eventually entering administration.

Bannan, on the other hand, would leave six months later, joining Championship rivals Millwall in January due to the Owls' financial predicament, though the 36-year-old Scot has since returned to the South Yorkshire outfit this summer in a bid to guide the club to promotion from League One again.

Josh Windass, son of former Hull City and Bradford City forward Dean, began his professional career with Lancashire-based outfit Accrington Stanley, excelling in League Two, and eventually securing a move to Scottish giants Rangers in 2016.

He spent just two years in Glasgow before returning to England with Wigan Athletic in 2018, spending one-and-a-half years at the DW Stadium before joining Sheffield Wednesday on loan in January 2020, before making that move permanent the following summer.

52 goals and 23 assists in 182 games across all competitions followed for the English attacking-midfielder, who quickly became a fan favourite at Hillsborough, but he decided to embark on a new journey last summer, joining Welsh outfit Wrexham.

Windass directly contributed to 21 goals in 41 Championship games last season, as the 32-year-old remains one of the most consistent performers in that area of the pitch in the English second tier, with Transfermarkt valuing him at just around €1 million (£859k), with his age likely being a huge contributing factor.

Bannan, over the past decade or so, has become Mr Sheffield Wednesday, closing in on nearly 500 appearances for the Owls across all competitions.

Beginning his professional career with Aston Villa, Bannan spent time out on loan with the likes of Derby County, Blackpool, and Leeds United, before joining Crystal Palace permanently in the summer of 2013.

However, the Scot would struggle to nail down a place at Selhurst Park, and spent the second half of the 2014/15 season on loan with Bolton Wanderers, before joining Wednesday on a free transfer the following summer.

What has followed has been over a decade's worth of service to the Owls, remaining a consistent figure in the middle of the park at Hillsborough in the Championship and League One, helping the club to promotion back to the second tier in 2023, and will be hoping to do the same in 2027.

Due to turn 37 before the end of the year, Bannan is no spring chicken, as Transfermarkt values the midfielder at just €200k (£171k).

Though both Windass and Bannan have amassed nearly 650 Championship appearances between them over their careers, age plays a huge role in their €800k (£688k) value difference.

Had the pair both been in and around their late 20s, then their values would almost certainly be in the multi-millions. However, with Windass 32 and Bannan 36, they are both entering the twilight of their careers in the game.

Windass remains a regular under Phil Parkinson at Wrexham following his switch last summer, whereas Bannan's place in the Wednesday side doesn't even come into question, as Owls supporters will be looking to their captain to guide them back to the Championship this season.
