Josip Sutalo has landed in Rome ahead of a Lazio medical, with the club closing on a move from Ajax. According to The Laziali, the Croatia defender would become their fourth first-team signing of the summer.

The Biancocelesti have already added Alfonso Pedraza and Danilho Doekhi on free transfers, and Davide Frattesi on loan from Inter Milan with an option to buy. Gennaro Gattuso sought another centre-back with Alessio Romagnoli’s future unresolved and Patric and Samuel Gigot still out long term.

Angelo Fabiani weighed several targets, but Lazio focused on Sutalo, a 26-year-old Croatia international who joined Ajax in 2023. A good working relationship between the clubs, reflected in January talks over Kenneth Taylor, helped speed up the deal.

The agreement is a loan at €3 million with a €7.5 million option to buy, for a total €10 million. Sutalo was seen at Fiumicino on Friday evening.

He is expected to undergo medical checks in the coming hours, with an official announcement likely on Saturday.

Once the defence is addressed, attention will turn to a striker. Bamba Dieng arrived in Italy on Thursday to complete a free transfer, but failed a medical. Andrea Pinamonti is now seen as the most plausible solution.
