Arsenal Make Victor Osimhen Top Transfer Target as Mikel Arteta Pushes for Elite Striker

Arsenal have turned their focus towards Victor Osimhen as they look to add another high-level attacking option before the transfer window closes, with the Nigeria international now understood to be the leading name on the club’s shortlist.

The north London side have already strengthened key areas of Mikel Arteta’s squad with the arrivals of Illan Meslier, Christos Tzolis and Bruno Guimaraes. Even so, there remains a strong appetite inside the club to add further firepower. Arsenal explored ambitious moves for Morgan Rogers and Vinicius Jr earlier in the window, but with those pursuits failing to materialise, attention has shifted elsewhere.

As first reported by Sebastien Denis, Arsenal now regard Osimhen as their priority attacking target. The indication is that Arteta has made his preference clear to the recruitment department, and there is confidence a deal can be put together if the conditions align.

Arsenal’s current forward line already contains quality, and Viktor Gyokeres delivered strongly after his £64m arrival from Sporting last summer, finishing with 21 goals in all competitions as Arsenal ended a 22-year wait for the Premier League title and also reached the Champions League final. Yet squad planning rarely stands still at the top end of the game.

With uncertainty surrounding Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, Arsenal are assessing how best to protect their depth and raise the ceiling of their attack. That has brought Osimhen firmly into view. Talks between Arsenal and Galatasaray have been reported, with the Turkish club also linked to Martinelli, a factor that could add another layer to discussions if movement develops on both fronts.

Galatasaray stance and transfer fee details

Galatasaray are believed to be open to doing business for the right figure. No final valuation has been publicly fixed, but the expectation is that they would seek to recover the €70m, £60m, invested to sign Osimhen permanently from Napoli.

That fee would place the deal among the more significant striker moves of the summer, yet Arsenal’s interest is understandable. Osimhen has consistently produced across different leagues, and his output for Galatasaray, 59 goals in 74 appearances over two seasons, reflects the level of reliability elite clubs seek when making major investments.

His rise has been well established for some time. After playing a key role in Napoli’s Serie A title success, he rebuilt momentum in Turkey following his difficult exit in Italy, helping Galatasaray win successive Super Lig titles while also making a major impact in Europe.

From an Arsenal supporter perspective, this is exactly the sort of report that gets the pulse racing. Osimhen feels like a statement signing, the kind that tells the rest of the Premier League and Europe that Arsenal are not settling after recent success, they are pushing for more. If the club genuinely see him as the top target, that says plenty about the ambition behind the scenes.

There is a lot to like about the fit. He is aggressive, quick, powerful and direct. Arsenal can sometimes dominate games territorially and still need that ruthless edge in the box, and Osimhen looks built to provide it. He would also give Arteta a different profile in attack, something every top squad needs when fixtures pile up and opponents defend in different ways.

Supporters will also love the mentality side. The best Arsenal teams have always had forwards who play with conviction, hunger and presence. Osimhen seems to bring all three. If this move can be done around the reported £60m mark, it could prove one of the smartest big deals of the window.

There are always financial and tactical details to sort through, and nothing is done until contracts are signed. Still, if Arsenal land Osimhen, it would feel like a move made by champions who want to stay at the top, not merely cling on to it.
