It seems John Textor is stepping up his pursuit of Sheffield Wednesday after making contact with the club's administrators.

Former Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor has made contact with the administrators of Sheffield Wednesday as he continues to explore a potential takeover of the club.

That's according to journalist Alan Myers, who has revealed that Textor has confirmed to him that he has spoken to Wednesday's administrators about the possibility of buying the South Yorkshire outfit.

After months of financial and off-field turmoil, former Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri put the club and the company through which he owned the stadium into administration on Friday, which ended his turbulent decade-long tenure at Hillsborough.

Despite Wednesday only being in administration for a matter of days, it seems there are no shortage of suitors for the club, and joint-administrator Kris Wigfield confirmed on Monday that "there are already four or five interested parties that look like the real deal", while he hinted that a takeover deal could potentially be completed before the end of the year.

While a number of credible parties are showing interest, it may be some time before a preferred bidder is chosen, with Wigfield explaining that the club must remain on the market for 28 days as per EFL regulations, but it seems Textor is now stepping up his bid to purchase the Owls.

Textor was the former co-owner of Premier League side Crystal Palace until June this year when he sold his 43% stake to Woody Johnson for £190 million, while his company, Eagle Football Holdings, owns French side Lyon, Brazilian outfit Botafogo and Belgian club RWDM Brussels.

Despite still having an influence at three clubs, Textor is known to be keen to add another English club to his network, and he has long been linked with a takeover of Wednesday, with his interest first being revealed back in June.

Speaking earlier this month, Textor revealed that he had "a little bit of interaction" with former owner Chansiri about a possible takeover, and he confirmed that the Owls were "one of the clubs that we're looking at", but he admitted that the extent of his involvement had been "a bit overstated".

The situation with Textor took an unexpected twist on Monday when The Athletic reported that he had made a £400 million bid for Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, while it was also revealed that he is keeping an eye on Championship quartet Charlton Athletic, Queens Park Rangers, Derby County and Watford as he continues to explore his options.

However, despite making a move for Wolves and considering other second tier options, Myers claims that Textor has confirmed to him that he remains keen on Wednesday, and the 60-year-old has now spoken to the club's administrators.

Textor has regularly been linked with a takeover of Wednesday in recent months, and it is clear the American businessman holds a serious interest in the club, but he is a controversial figure within football.

Crystal Palace were kicked out of this season's Europa League due to their involvement in Textor's multi-club ownership group, while another of his sides, Lyon, were administratively relegated from the French top flight in the summer before being given a reprieve.

Textor is a wealthy individual and an experienced football operator, and in his defence, his clubs have enjoyed plenty of success on the pitch during his time in charge, but after the turmoil of the Chansiri era, Owls supporters may understandably be a little nervous about the prospect of him taking over their club.
