Sheffield Wednesday have endured a miserable time off it off the field and, whilst Championship relegation now appears an inevitability, there is reason for hope and optimism about the future of the Owls.

Dejphon Chansiri has finally departed Hillsborough with the club being placed into administration, and thus the recipients of a 12-point deduction imposed on them by the EFL.

Whilst administration is often, and still remains, an even more concerning occurrence for a club; it does now allow Wednesday to be sold to serious investors and prospective buyers, who had perhaps been blocked by Chansiri.

One of those prospective buyers was American businessman John Textor, who has now reportedly made a £400 million bid to purchase Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

John Textor interest in Wolves should rule out Sheffield Wednesday purchase

The Botafogo owner John Textor has been the subject of plenty of controversy over his dealings at both Crystal Palace and Olympique Lyonnais, but was seemingly deemed as a potential saviour in South Yorkshire.

However, a combination of Wednesday’s options now opening up in administration as well as his reported interest in Wolves has led FLW’s Sheffield Wednesday Fan Pundit Patrick McKenna believes any deal involving Textor and the Owls is now a thing of the past.

Patrick says: “In regards to John Textor making a big bid to take over at Wolves, I think that will rule him out of the picture for buying Sheffield Wednesday.

“The administrators will want the serious bidders to come in now and show their hand for the club.

“The whole thing with Textor was that he always had so much going on. He’s juggling the ownership of different clubs and he kind of seemed a man that was going to him and rescue us pre-administration.

“I just don’t think he’ll be able to impress the administrators with the chaos-ridden nature of his different ownership.

“I think he could have possibly offered a solution pre-administration but I think the fact now that the administrators are here and the fact they will want to get the club sold as quickly and efficiently as possible rules him out.

“I think there will be and are better options out there. Good luck to him at Wolves but I think the ship for him at Sheffield Wednesday may well have sold now.”

Sheffield Wednesday will believe it is a bullet dodged with John Textor

At pretty much every club that John Textor has been involved at there has been supporter unrest, even at Botafogo, where they have won the Brazilian Serie A during his stewardship.

Lyon were administratively relegated to Ligue 2 by the French football authorities over the summer, before managing to avoid that fate due to a successful appeal, but Textor has still been forced to take a step back from the club.

Textor’s involvement at Lyon, UEFA Europa League qualifiers, also led to Crystal Palace, a club he used to have a hefty stake of, being demoted to the UEFA Europa Conference League after their FA Cup triumph.

Even supporters of Belgian minnows Racing White Daring Molenbeek have been disgruntled at his dealings, despite them gaining promotion to the top-flight during his time.

Textor will believe he can transform a sinking Wolves side but it could well be that it is a blessing for Wednesday and that they are dodging a bullet by his turning of attention away from Hillsborough.
